The Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization to the Convention on Biological Diversity is an international agreement to ensure the fair and equitable access and benefit sharing (ABS) in using genetic resources.
Researchers should refer to following guidance on the research operations website when before:
- conducting fieldwork that may involve the collection of non-human genetic material that originates from overseas
- undertaking genetic/biochemical analysis of non-humangenetic material that originates from overseas
- receiving non-human genetic material from third parties where the genetic material originates from overseas
- transfer non-humangenetic material to a third parties where the genetic material originates from overseas
In the case of uncertainity regarding the potential ABS requirements relating to your research using genetic materials that originate from overseas, please contact Dr Sinead Healy (srh67@cam.ac.uk) for further advice.
